Description
Aquaproject 03 Primary Colors submission
Only three paints used:
Grumbacher Academy Lemon Yellow (PY3)
Grumbacher Academy Alizarin Crimson (PR83)
Winsor & Newton Cotman Intense Blue (PB15)
9x6 in. Canson Montval 140 lb cold press fine grain paper
I deliberately chose a subject that would require considerable mixing and color manipulation, since that seemed to be the goal of the exercise. I found that the phthalocyanine blue is difficult to control and tends to overpower the other colors much too easily, but with careful experimentation and more time spent mixing than actually painting, it could be done. The usual earth tones I would have used (burnt sienna, burnt umber, yellow ochre) could be matched fairly well with sufficient effort.
Only a "sketch" but I'm satisfied with the results. Note the samples of the three pigments in the lower right corner.

This is a wonderful sketch! You did a lovely job, so many lovely tones in this piece, it came out really well. Thank you so much for sharing your mixing experience with us as well, I hope other members can learn from this.
